Senior Sourcing Manager*
Job Title: Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management
Location: Foster City, CA 94404 (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Duration: 12 Months
Pay Rate: $65/hr – $67/hr (W2)
Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management will lead sourcing activities across multiple direct material categories. This includes supplier selection, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, support for new product development, and inventory control. The role is both strategic and tactical in nature and involves influencing cross-functional teams and suppliers to ensure optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Lead supplier selection projects, RFPs/RFQs/RFIs, and negotiations of Confidentiality Agreements, Master Service Agreements, and Work Orders.
- Identify and manage strategic suppliers of direct materials aligned with Category Management strategies.
- Support make-vs-buy analysis and new product development sourcing needs from development through commercialization.
- Lead or participate in supplier site assessments and selection processes.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary contact for business discussions, capacity planning, and issue resolution.
- Manage day-to-day performance and escalate issues related to supplier performance.
- Conduct regular supplier risk assessments and mitigation planning.
- Lead annual Business Review Meetings (BRMs) with assigned suppliers.
- Establish quality and technical expectations with suppliers.
Operational Support
- Responsible for procurement, purchase order placement, and inventory management of components.
- Develop and report budgets, accruals, and financial data to Finance as needed.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Manufacturing Operations, QA, Technical Development) to meet outsourced supply needs.
- Organize and lead internal/external meetings, publish meeting minutes, and track decisions.
- Stay informed on supplier capabilities, offerings, and capacity to meet pipeline needs.
Process Improvement
- Lead and support Operational Excellence initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Apply project management principles to drive process efficiency and team coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing or a similar environment.
- Prior experience managing manufacturing service providers and/or direct material suppliers.
- Strong understanding of GMPs and regulatory requirements (21 CFR Parts 11, 210, 211, 820).
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing supplier relationships.
- Strong negotiation and contracting skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced and uncertain environment.
- Ability to develop presentations and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and/or internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MA, MBA, or Ph.D.) in a relevant field.
- Experience with combination product sourcing.
- Familiarity with CMC development activities for biopharmaceuticals.
- People management experience.
- Project management certification or formal training.
