POSITION SUMMARY:
Primary role of the Lab Technician II is to work in a highly collaborative environment providing lab support to Research Associates and Scientists. The Lab Technician II is independently maintaining the laboratory, including supplies and maintenance of laboratory equipment and analytical instruments.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining laboratory equipment and analytical instruments, including coordination and communication with vendors
-Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory and assisting with organizational initiatives and monthly lab cleanups.
-Developing routine maintenance schedules and coordinating with staff for appropriate timing of annual/biannual maintenance by Facilities team or external vendors. Scheduling maintenance with vendors or Facilities
-Managing maintenance contracts with vendors, submitting through Contract Management System
-Maintaining supply availability with increasing understanding of usage. Coordinating with internal teams to ensure supplies are available when needed.
-Preparing solutions and buffers as needed. Managing waste and waste disposal for laboratory equipment.
-Performing daily equipment calibration as required, including pH and conductivity probes
-Cleaning AKTA equipment and performing system storage as needed
-Managing freezers and freezer inventory
-Various other laboratory management tasks, including other requests from laboratory staff to assist with preparing for experiments
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Individual will interact primarily with the Purification Development laboratory staff (RA and Scientist level) in Bothell in a technical support role.
May have limited interactions with other groups sharing the Bothell lab space (SPF and Cell Culture groups)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years in this role or a related position
High School diploma, minimum; Associates or Bachelors Degree desirable and 1+ years
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Individual contributor with no people management responsibilities.
Understanding of basic biochemistry principles, such as buffer and solution preparation
Hard Skills:
1. Buffer Preparation Skills (Chemical Knowledge, pH Measurement, Solution Preparation, Sterilization Techniques, Buffer Capacity Testing)
2. Core Bio Chem Laboratory Skills (Spectrophotometry, Chromatography, Electrophoresis, Microscopy, Cleaning AKTA equipment, Lab Notebook Maintenance, Lab Safety Protocols, Regulatory Compliance)
3. Organizational/Training Skills (Lean Six Sigma)
Soft Skills:
1. Interpersonal and Adaptability Skills: Builds positive relationships and communicates effectively within a team. Adjusting to different roles and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives.
