Job Description Summary:
This is a Packaging Development R&D Lab Technician position responsible for managing the East Hanover Lab and Client, in the US physically located in the strategic location in East Hanover, NJ. The individual must possess experience in managing a Packaging Lab, as well as strong technical skills, the ability to learn on the fly and execute independently by leveraging their expertise and experience. A minimum of 3- 5 yrs. experience is required, preferably in the food industry. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to be a strong team player representing our technical organization, providing guidance and expertise to Junior Engineers. Must be able to find technical solutions when problems are identified and an effective communicator to the Packaging Development Team.

Job Description Summary:

The individual must possess experience in managing a Packaging Lab, as well as strong technical skills, the ability to learn on the fly and execute independently by leveraging their expertise and experience. A minimum of 3- 5 yrs. experience is required, preferably in the food industry. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to be a strong team player representing our technical organization, providing guidance and expertise to Junior Engineers. Must be able to find technical solutions when problems are identified and an effective communicator to the Packaging Development Team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform requested packaging testing, share data with requestor, leverage GLIMS to maintain record of test results.
- Support or execute trials at the Client, Single Point of Contact for WPP staff.
- Create or maintain internal test methods & SOPs for each instrument and equipment type
- Purchase supplies & consumables as needed, following Client procedures.
- Maintain safe, organized, stocked, and tidy lab and pilot plant environment at all times.
- Ensure data repository (Eureka, Teams or other) is used for all tests.
- Ability to conduct tours of the lab to Senior Leadership.
Safety:
- Assigned as Packaging Safety Steward for EH Lab and WPP.
- Coordinate periodic site safety inspections
- Facilitate and update Risk Assessments with HSE & other experts.
- Conduct Safety Training for new employees and as needed.
- Manage the Packaging Developers storage locations in the lab.
Budget Planning & Tracking:
- Plan & submit proposal for next year’s budget during June/July timeframe, including capital.
- Track expenses on blanket POs and ensure phasing/forecast is accurate.
- Maintenance, Calibration & Training:
- Maintain equipment schedule/coordinate repair as needed.
- Schedule training for new installations; Manage Super Users for WPP equipment to support trials.
- Coordinate with vendors to complete yearly calibration tests in the East Hanover lab.
New Equipment Purchase & Installation:
- Identify new testing and equipment needs based on developer feedback and strategic needs.
- Draft and submit ARs for approval, and complete GR.
- Lead all pre and post installation actives in partnership with Facilities.
- Request and maintain assets tags for proper deprecation reporting.
Whippany Pilot Plant Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between Packaging Developers and Pilot Plant staff to plan trials, coordinate activities, material arrival and ensure proper forms/ requirements in place.
- Securing the necessary support from Super Users and/or WPP staff to run equipment during trials.
- Work with WPP to create proper forms and documentation to comply with HSE & Food Safety standards, SOP, risk assessment, ability to recommission equipment and create PM plan.
