Job Overview
The Phlebotomist II / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the primary representative of our organization to patients who visit for routine health testing or essential diagnostic evaluations. This role is responsible for collecting highquality blood specimens, preparing samples for laboratory analysis, and maintaining a professional, safe, and patientfocused environment.
The PSR II builds trust with patients by clearly explaining procedures, demonstrating strong technical skills, and ensuring accuracy in all aspects of specimen collection. This position requires strong interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality and process excellence. Assignments may include doctor’s offices, patient service centers, or other designated locations.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily tasks accurately, efficiently, and on schedule under the direction of the area supervisor.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
- Confidently perform both forensic and clinical specimen collection, adhering to standardized procedures.
- Verify patient identity and demographic information; ensure tubes are labeled in the patient’s presence and confirmed via signature postvenipuncture.
- Prepare specimens for transport and maintain all required documentation and records.
- Demonstrate organizational commitment and a positive attitude when interacting with patients, coworkers, clients, and the general public.
- Provide excellent customer service and foster a supportive, comforting atmosphere for patients.
- Travel to different locations as needed; provide coverage for various Patient Service Centers or inoffice phlebotomy sites with short notice.
- Follow all company policies, safety protocols, and dress code requirements.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a highvolume environment.
- Exhibit leadership behaviors, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
Job Requirements
- Ability to deliver accurate, errorfree work in a fast-paced setting.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and oncall shifts as needed.
- Must be able to make sound decisions following established guidelines.
- Reliable personal transportation (Public transport, rideshare, or dropoff is not considered reliable for this role).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if applicable).
- Must be punctual, dependable, and able to complete entire scheduled shifts.
- Strong customer service mindset and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to change, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
- Keyboard and data entry proficiency.
- Must reside within 20–25 minutes commute of the worksite (must be listed on resume).
- Training may occur at alternate locations based on trainer availability.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in CA, NV, and WA.
Work Experience
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience required, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Experience working in a Patient Service Center environment strongly preferred (2+ years).
- Previous customer service experience in healthcare, retail, or service industry highly preferred.
