Job Title: MQ Administrator
Location: Richmond, VA 23219 (On-site or hybrid if applicable)
Duration: 12 Months+ (Possible Extension)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced IBM MQ Administrator to support the configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of IBM MQ environments across distributed systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of high-availability setups, clustering, security configurations, and automated solutions to ensure reliable and secure messaging infrastructure.

- Configure, deploy, and maintain IBM MQ components, including distributed queue managers and channels.
- Design and implement high-availability (HA) and clustered MQ environments, including multi-instance queue managers and disaster recovery strategies.
- Manage and enforce advanced security protocols, including SSL/TLS encryption, OAM policies, and LDAP integration.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for monitoring, maintenance, and deployment tasks.
- Diagnose and resolve complex messaging issues, including dead-letter queues, failed message routing, and performance bottlenecks.
- Tune MQ infrastructure for optimal performance (throughput, latency, resource utilization).
- Support application teams with MQ integration, especially those using JMS or REST API connections.
- Use tools such as MQ Explorer, Splunk, Prometheus, or Nagios for real-time monitoring and alert configuration.
Technical Skills Required:
- IBM MQ Administration (v9.x or higher)
- Experience with HA and MQ Clustering
- Strong knowledge of SSL/TLS security and MQ access control
- Proficient in troubleshooting tools: strmqtrc, dspmqtrc, dmpmqmsg
- Scripting skills: Python, Bash, PowerShell
- Familiarity with monitoring tools: MQ Explorer, Prometheus, Splunk, Nagios
- Understanding of application integration via JMS and REST API
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in IBM MQ administration
- Experience working in enterprise-scale environments
- Knowledge of cloud-based MQ implementations is a plus (e.g., MQ on AWS, Azure)
- MQ certification(s) preferred
