Systems Administrator - III
Job Title: Systems Administrator
Location: Richmond, VA 23219
Duration: 12 Months
Work Schedule: May require extended hours and occasional travel, including overnight stays. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and security of Oracle databases and associated systems. This role involves providing high-level technical support, managing database performance, and participating in the implementation of new systems and infrastructure enhancements. The ideal candidate will have extensive Oracle database experience and demonstrate strong decision-making, risk management, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and support Oracle databases, including installation, configuration, upgrading, and patching (Patch Set Update/Release Update).
- Monitor, tune, and maintain database performance and availability.
- Perform backup and recovery using RMAN and manage Data Guard configurations including switchover and failover.
- Administer Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and ensure database security.
- Design and evaluate database structures, packages, and procedures using SQL and PL/SQL.
- Implement and troubleshoot Oracle Clusterware (CRS).
- Participate in the planning, development, testing, and implementation of new database systems and enhancements.
- Provide technical assistance and perform problem resolution for complex database issues.
- Contribute to strategic planning, including architecture design and long-term system planning.
- Follow system implementation plans and support user transitions.
- Collaborate on cross-functional project teams, providing database expertise.
- Support change management, problem management, and related operational processes.
- Adapt to organizational culture and support internal practices and procedures.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with Oracle RDBMS installation, configuration, and patching.
- Expertise in:
- Oracle backup and recovery using RMAN
- Oracle Clusterware (CRS) administration
- SQL and PL/SQL development
- Database security and monitoring
- Experience with:
- Oracle Data Guard setup and failover/switchover
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting of Oracle databases
- AIX/Linux systems, Unix, networking, and storage
- Windows operating systems
- Strong understanding of risk management principles in technical decision-making.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and within established processes to meet objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of enterprise IT environments and system integration.
- Experience with strategic database planning and architecture design.
- Familiarity with software development practices and debugging techniques.
- Previous participation in large-scale database migration or infrastructure projects.
