Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist - Traveler
Location: Portland, ME
Duration: 3 Months (Possible Extension/ Temp to Hire)
Shift: Night: Sat, Sun, Mon & Tue: 10AM - 7PM




Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Clinical Laboratory Technologist to perform high-complexity testing and ensure accurate, timely reporting of patient results. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, a solid understanding of laboratory operations, and a commitment to quality and patient confidentiality.




Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle and process specimens according to lab protocols.

  • Conduct testing and analyze specimens using approved procedures.

  • Accurately document and report patient test results.

  • Maintain testing records and proficiency testing documentation.

  • Review and release test results with accuracy and efficiency.

  • Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and lab safety guidelines.

  • Adhere to quality control standards, calibrations, and maintenance protocols.

  • Troubleshoot testing issues and notify supervisors when necessary.

  • Document corrective actions for any testing deviations.

  • Report STAT and critical results promptly.

  • Answer internal and client-related lab inquiries.

  • Keep accurate logs of all testing performed on-site.

  • Ensure proper labeling and tracking of reagents and test kits.

  • Stay updated on new procedures and participate in training sessions.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab area.

  • Participate in safety and regulatory inspections as needed.

  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.




Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of laboratory testing and clinical lab procedures.

  • Familiarity with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) standards.

  • Proficient with computers and comfortable using multiple lab software systems.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Commitment to confidentiality and compliance with all regulatory standards.




Education & Certification:

  • Preferred: BS in Medical Technology

  • Accepted: BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, or an Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology

  • Candidates previously qualified as Technologists under 42 CFR 493.1433 (as of March 14, 1990) are also eligible

  • Foreign-educated candidates: Credential evaluation from IERF required

  • U.S.-educated candidates: Must provide an official transcript

  • National certification (ASCP or AMT) as MT/MLT preferred or eligible




Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical lab experience in high-complexity testing preferred

  • Licensure must meet state and national requirements
