Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Technician (SPT I)
Location: Irving, TX
Duration: 2+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM CST
Job Summary:
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. The technician will be responsible for various specimen-related tasks and must demonstrate flexibility, organization, and a commitment to quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen presort, A-station tasks, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery to the lab.
- Accurately enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Handle and process specimens in a biohazard environment, following safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with test ordering regulations and adapt to daily changes.
- Communicate effectively with team members and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
- Support imaging/microfilming and other specimen documentation tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Skills: Basic computer knowledge; strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Experience: No prior experience required, but laboratory or medical background preferred.
- Previous experience in a production or hospital lab environment is a plus.
