Job responsibilities:
- Pre-packages medications and prepares unit dosage forms.
- Selects, prepares, and labels medications for the correct patient.
- Manages Client inventories and reconciles stock levels.
- Assists with medication distribution tasks.
- Inspects all assigned medication storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
- Performs all job standards relevant to Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Level II
- Provides management of controlled substances and reconciles inventories.
- Performs sterile IV admixtures using aseptic technique and properly documents cleaning activities.
- Participates in pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking; receives stock.
- Performs advanced sterile IV admixture, as applicable, such as hazardous medication preparation and advanced batch preparation, using proper aseptic technique.
- Facilitates management of records including reconciliation and resolution of medication inventories in specialty areas.
- Maintains status as a validated pharmacy technician and perform tech-check-tech processes, as applicable.
- Performs all job standards relevant to Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Level II
- Completes and documents medication admission histories.
- Collaborates and acts as a liaison between the pharmacy and units within the hospital, the patient and family, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Direct responsibility to build and maintain positive relationships with referral sources to promote the pharmacy, discharge and mail order programs, as applicable to work site.
- Demonstrates expertise with technology for relevant workflow utilizing the appropriate system. Job Standard 8: Performs all job standards relevant to Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Level II Job Standard 8:
- Review and develop solutions to insurance problems and communicate issues to appropriate parties.
- Completes prior authorization and patient assistance requests for medications.
- Provides exceptional customer service to patients in person and via telephone.
- Appropriately triages patient and provider calls/requests. Independently works with providers, pharmacists, patients, other caregivers, and payers to ensure access to medications.
- Participates in and may coordinate quality improvement initiatives to assure the excellence of departmental services.
- Assists and validates training of pharmacy technicians and extenders in orientation to the policies, procedures, and workflows involved in pharmacy operations as applicable at entity level.
Education:
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in a hospital pharmacy department is preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- For decentralized technicians - a minimum of 3 years work experience in a outpatient/community pharmacy is preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
- Application for Wisconsin registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required by hire date and must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Boards exam (PTCE) or the National Healthcareer Associations exam (ExCPT) is required within 6 months of hire.
